#HS2 is vitally needed to #Decarbonise the #UK transport system; we need it to deliver the increase in capacity needed for move away from #DomesticFlights and to #ReduceDriving. UK is slowly waking up to the reality that #RoadTransport is a massive issue.

Here’s a shock HS2 is on schedule………. to breach its budget. Who would have guessed? This cuckoo of a project is consuming all the worker, material and service capacity. While the host, the UK taxpayer,runs itself ragged to try to keep it fed. Did we ever need this offspring?
Not just this but also:
1. #FuelDuty - Lower rate incentivises driving over #ModalShift or to #ReduceDriving.
2. #RIS2 allowing more #RoadCapacity, again incentivising driving via reduced journey times.
3. Cut in #AirPassengerDuty, esp on #DomesticFlights.
The scam of 'net zero by 2050' demonstrated again:
1) Bristol airport gets the go ahead for expansion.
2) Govt approves development of Abigail Oil field in the N.Sea.
Just turn up the 'Negative emission' dial & all is rosy - i.e. we pass our mitigation burden on to our children.

We need to #ReduceDriving and #ReduceFlying but what remains needs #ModalShift where possible; that means INCREASING #RailCapacity for which best option is #HS2 etc.
Policy levers are there to start NOW if G'ment sought to actually tackle #ClimateCrisis.
We NEED to reduce overall #Driving and #Flying; this is what we should hold #UKNET to account on. I don't want a UK with 51% MORE road traffic or 63% more air travel. Why do we focus so heavily on enabling these modes at exclusion of others?

@EmBeck2015 @DavidMartinCSP While I sympathize with the people of #ChurchFenton, #HS2 is a vital project for the nation. It is the only realistic way to cut #DomesticFlights and via #HS2CapacityRelease allow us to #ReduceDriving.

Build #HS2 = More #RailCapacity
More Rail Capacity = More #TripsByRail
More Trips by rail = Fewer #DomesticFlights and #ReduceDriving
Fewer domestic flights & less driving = Reduced #TransportEmissions
Less Transport Emissions = Less #ClimateChange

HS2 is desperately needed to remove #DomesticFlights from UK skies and via #HS2ReleasedCapacity allow for #ReduceDriving by more #LocalTrains.
