📐Thrilled that our paper is out at @JIntlEcon!
The triangle inequality (TI) has been largely overlooked in quantitative exercises, even though it has important implications for them! A 🧵 1/12

As in previous years, the @AtlantaFed is running a visiting program for PhD student. Come and join us for an exciting summer full of economics and fried chicken! Deadline soon: April 4th! https://t.co/903hRcEOBB
Why do import prices respond so little to exchange-rate shocks?
New evidence from production networks: exporters with bilateral market power tend to invoice in the importer’s currency, suppressing exchange-rate pass-through. @TUDarmstadt@UniBasel@bse_barcelona@SNB_BNS
International trade data is super-useful but also very problematic. @seba_bustos, @torun_david, Muhammed Yildirim and the team at the @HarvardGrwthLab invented two major methods: one deals with inconsistencies between reporting countries and the other deals with classification changes. The result is a new paper and dataset that should become the new standard for research and analysis. Bravo. https://t.co/3xI6en8IZk

My column on Venezuela in @TheEconomist
“Prosperity does not come from oil, decrees or even benevolent rulers. It comes from rights. Rights create private property. Rights create security. Rights create debate. Rights allow people to invest, to innovate, to dream—and to transform reality. Take rights away, and society withers. Restore them, and recovery is possible.”

Proud @UCSDEcon student Paula Donaldson @paudonaldson discovered something huge: We have been measuring government spending effects wrong for years. When using state comparisons to estimate fiscal policy, we assumed interest rates affect all states equally. But they don't🧵
Jordán will be on the market with a great job market paper studying privately supplied public transit in Mexico City this year — take a look!
And reach out to me if you want to read his letter(s)!

New data drop! 📊
A new extension of the Global Tariff Database is now available, covering the U.S. trade war (2018–2025) 🇺🇸🌏
It includes bilateral tariffs — those imposed by the U.S. and those faced by U.S. exporters — tracking all changes from Jan 2018 to mid-Aug 2025.
I’m delighted to share that I’ve joined @econ_uzh as a Senior Researcher. This new chapter is supported by a generous @snsf_ch Ambizione Career Grant and even comes with a stunning view of Zurich from my office 😉.
If you’re in Zurich, I’d love to catch up and show you around!
