वर्ष 2010 में वाल्मीकि टाइगर रिजर्व में 8 बाघ थे, जो वर्ष 2022 में बढ़कर 54 हो गए।
बाघ संरक्षण के उत्कृष्ट प्रयासों के लिए वर्ष 2017 में वाल्मीकि टाइगर रिजर्व को आरबीएस अर्थ गार्डियन अवार्ड से सम्मानित किया गया।
वर्ष 2021 में इंडिया बायोडायवर्सिटी अवार्ड से भी सम्मानित किया गया।
वर्ष 2021 में (CA|TS) मूल्यांकन में वाल्मीकि टाइगर रिजर्व को देशभर में 14वाँ स्थान प्राप्त हुआ।
वहीं, टाइगर गार्ड श्रेणी में वाल्मीकि टाइगर रिजर्व को देशभर में 5वाँ स्थान प्राप्त हुआ।

🌿 Understanding India's Protected Areas

India's rich biodiversity is protected through a network of Protected Areas (PAs) under the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, including:
🌳 106 National Parks
🦌 573 Wildlife Sanctuaries
🌿 115 Conservation Reserves
🤝 220 Community Reserves

Together, these 1,014 Protected Areas protect nearly 5.4% of India's geographical area.

The Act also provides for 🐅 58 Tiger Reserves, strengthening the conservation of tigers and their habitats. In contrast, 🐘 33 Elephant Reserves are designated under Project Elephant. However, these are not a category of Protected Area under the Wild Life (Protection) Act.

Protected Areas are just one part of India's conservation efforts. Stay tuned to explore other conservation frameworks.

🌿 BSI scientists Dr. Sudhansu Sekhar Dash, Dr. Subhajit Lahiri, and Mrs. Monalisa Das have rediscovered the rare alpine species Cyananthus hookeri C.B. Clarke after an extraordinary gap of 158 years from Chuna Valley, Tawang District, Arunachal Pradesh.

This is the first confirmed record from Arunachal Pradesh and the first collection in India since 1867, highlighting the immense botanical wealth of the Eastern Himalaya and reinforcing the importance of continued exploration and conservation of India's fragile alpine ecosystems.🌱

#ExpressSpecial | An analysis of six years of seizure data has uncovered organised interstate wildlife trafficking networks operating through Madhya Pradesh's railway system.

Between 2020 and 2026, authorities recovered 654 protected animals, including 647 turtles, from passenger trains crossing the state.

The findings have prompted Madhya Pradesh to prepare its first coordinated crackdown on wildlife trafficking through the railway network, with officials identifying recurring routes, vulnerable stations and repeat offenders.
