How can we capture the complexity of biology when most biological diversity is unknown? How can we leverage deep learning for biology when most data is "small data"? Check out our new preprint, presenting LookingGlass - a "universal language of life": https://t.co/40A42zuvFC
@dataghees I should add this to the docs - but I did it here for the paper (see the 'encode_seq' fn). https://t.co/dFLio2WMN1
I embedded sequences one-by-one but you could do it faster in batches if you're willing to trim seqs to the same length
@dataghees@ArtirKel Thanks! Excited for the coming years in biological foundation models and environmental applications in my lab @universityofga. Preprint is now a published paper here: https://t.co/dHxM7mtvAa
@samdemharter I’m still actively developing this! Currently more focused on metagenomes than drug discovery but it’s on the list (especially for astronaut health countermeasures at NASA). Always looking for collaborators!

So honored to be a part of this community of dedicated scientists! See our two review papers on the future of AI for space biology and precision space medicine
Honored💯 to have submitted today 🚀2 manuscripts (preprints @arxiv https://t.co/fo6uZRwBbz ; https://t.co/14Va3l0Ua4) & 2 white papers @theNASEM for Biological & Physical Space 🌌 Sciences (https://t.co/KibiBj9OD3 ; https://t.co/J8eLZD5q7Z ) #AI#OpenScience#Inclusion#BigThink
Congratulations to the BlueCarbon team on our 3rd place win! @CampusMer@SOAlliance What an honor to be selected from this global group of fantastic projects. Missed the live stream? See our recorded pitch here: https://t.co/bjLnNUGon4
Tune in tomorrow Dec 15 at 10am CET (1am PT and 4am ET. Yes 4am 😵) to see our fabulous team and 14 others from around the world pitch our ideas for innovative solutions to ocean sustainability at the international Ocean Hackathon Grand Finale! 💙🌊💙

I was so honored to lead this *incredible* team at the Ocean Hackathon in SF, a United Nations strategic "Decade Activity" in Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. We used NASA satellite data and deep learning to map blue carbon resources across the world.
✨Focus today on the #OceanHack winning team from San Francisco: @AHoarfrost (challenge owner), @avshrikumar, Maïa Bourgoin, and Auriane Tang.
The BLUE CARBON team worked on mapping of regional/global distributions of blue carbon resources.
Protecting astronaut health on long duration missions; using #machinelearning on data stored both on Earth and in space; and transferring knowledge from mouse models to humans. See the fabulous @FDL_AI 2021 Astronaut Health team present their work TODAY 15:00 ET!
So proud of the amazing #AstronautHealth researchers for @FDL_AI 2021 and their work understanding risks of space flight to astronaut health - see their presentation TOMORROW Aug 13 at 15:00 ET; register here: https://t.co/KVYnXgbxiX
When people say “the oceans are a buffer for climate change”, a lot of that is because of the Gulf Stream. It transports a huge amount of heat and CO2 into deep water. It makes weather. In the past, it’s caused an ice age. If it’s actually slowing down, it is a Big Deal.
“We’re all wishing it’s not true,” Peter de Menocal, a paleoceanographer and president and director of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, said of the changing ocean currents. “Because if that happens, it’s just a monstrous change.”
