Tokyo, June 2025 - The 9th World Parliamentarian Convention on Tibet (#WPCT), held in #Tokyo, marked a significant international show of solidarity for the #Tibetan cause. The resolution reaffirmed the CTAâs legitimacy as the Tibetan peopleâs democratic representative and called for immediate protection of Tibetâs language, religion, and fragile environment.

Speaking through Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, His Holiness stated,

He expressed hope that the Chinese people would eventually acknowledge the strength and just foundation of the Tibetan struggle.
The message, read during the inaugural session on Tuesday, was addressed to 142 delegates from 29 countries, all gathered to show support for the Tibetan cause. The Dalai Lama emphasized the Tibetan freedom movementâs grounding in centuries of cultural and spiritual heritage, shaped by Buddhist values of compassion, wisdom, and non-violence.
His Holiness also highlighted a growing interest among Chinese citizens in Buddhist teachings and noted the expanding engagement of scientists with Buddhist philosophy and psychology. He underlined that such intellectual and moral exchanges could foster greater understanding and mutual respect across cultural and political divides.
Reiterating his long-term advocacy for secular ethics and holistic education, the Dalai Lama stressed the need for systems that develop both emotional intelligence and moral values. âKindness, compassion, and honesty are essential for a healthy and just society,â he said, calling for education systems that uphold these universal human values.
He also took the opportunity to express appreciation for the role of parliamentarians in global support for Tibet: âThe support of peopleâs representatives is something that I particularly value and is of enormous significance to us Tibetans.â He urged lawmakers to continue advocating for truth, justice, and human rights.

The WPCT, organized by the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, has been a key platform for building international legislative support for Tibet. Since the first convention in #NewDelhi in 1994, it has convened in several global capitals, including #Washington, D.C.; Riga; Ottawa; Rome; Edinburgh; and Vilnius. These gatherings have consistently focused on promoting the Tibetan peopleâs right to self-determination, exposing the repression under Chinese rule, and encouraging diplomatic dialogue.
The 8th WPCT, held in Washington in 2022, brought together over 100 lawmakers from 26 countries and focused heavily on countering Chinese propaganda and pushing for renewed talks between the #DalaiLamaâs representatives and #Beijing.
