On July 22, 2026, the Abiy regime carried out a drone strike targeting St. Arsema Monastery, located near the Abay Bridge in the Mekane Selam area of Amhara Region. According to reports from the ground, the strike killed multiple monks and nuns, and caused extensive damage to the monastery.
The monastery, a religious site, was struck during the afternoon. In addition to the casualties, the attack destroyed monastery property and infrastructure.
@martinplaut This is the work of Abey ahmed cruelty. It is not a new tactics. Create chaos between different religion and ethnicity it's his expertise and Now his clique saying FANO did it. why? There are a lot of muslim FANO on the field. FANO is not a religious fanatic group.
Dera, Shewa. This video highlights reports of violence, displacement, and alleged ethnic cleansing affecting Amhara communities. We call for independent investigations, accountability, and protection for all civilians. #Amhara#Ethiopia#JusticeForAmhara
“This state action compounds extra judicial killings, state and non-state enforced disappearances and mass detention of ethnic #Amhara individuals. In my estimation, ladies and gentlemen, this is a form of genocide.”

From Promise to Failure: Ethiopia Under Abiy Ahmed - A Lawless State and a Fraudulent Election!
Under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government, Ethiopia has descended from a country once filled with hope for democratic renewal into a failed state defined by pervasive lawlessness, institutional decay, and the inability of the central authority to maintain basic order or deliver security across much of its territory. Large regions, particularly in Amhara and Oromia, remain gripped by ongoing insurgencies and armed conflict, where government control is fragmented, civilian protection has collapsed, and cycles of violence, displacement, and human rights abuses continue unabated.
The rule of law has eroded as institutions meant to uphold justice and accountability have been weakened or politicized, leaving citizens without reliable recourse against arbitrary power or local militias.
Compounding this failure is the regime’s recent celebration of the June 2026 general election - a process widely viewed as staged, fraudulent, and lacking legitimacy. Voting was suspended or rendered impossible in significant parts of conflict-affected areas, opposition parties and independent voices were marginalized or intimidated, and the ruling Prosperity Party secured a predetermined landslide in what critics describe as a hollow ritual rather than a genuine expression of the people’s will.
This electoral farce, conducted amid widespread insecurity and exclusion, does not reflect democratic progress but instead entrenches authoritarian control while the country grapples with deepening poverty, economic mismanagement, currency pressures, and a profound humanitarian toll on ordinary Ethiopians.
In short, the Abiy regime has presided over the transformation of Ethiopia into a lawless, fragmented state whose leadership prioritizes power consolidation over peace, inclusion, and genuine governance.
