The Annual Conference of Relief Commissioners/ Secretaries of Disaster Management, SDRFs, and Chiefs of Fire Services, Civil Defence & Home Guards (States/UTs) 2026 was inaugurated by 𝗛𝗼𝗻'𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗗𝗼𝗡𝗘𝗥) 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 @JM_Scindia at @nidmmhaindia, New Delhi.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗮𝘂𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻:

🔹The session commenced with a welcome address by the DG NDRF, followed by a policy presentation by AS (DM), MHA, and an address by the Union Home Secretary outlining national disaster management priorities.

🔹The Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar was conferred, recognising outstanding contributions in disaster management and community resilience by Hon'ble Union Minister Shri @JM_Scindia.

🔹The Cell Broadcasting Solution was launched, marking a major advancement in real-time, last-mile disaster early warning systems across India.

🔹Launch of the Concept of Disaster and Vulnerability– A handbook for Academicians on Disaster Risk Reduction, prepared by NIDM.

🔹Release of the #NDMA Guidelines on Animal Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction.

🔹The Hon'ble Union Minister Shri @JM_Scindia delivered visionary addresses emphasizing technology-driven governance, inter-agency coordination, and community-centric disaster preparedness.

🔹Shri Anuj Sharma, AS (DM) emphasized on strengthening of Early Warning System (EWS) of India though cell broadcasting and SACHET, effective response through Integrated Control Room for Emergency Response, expansion of two NIDM’s campus as well establishment of #NDRF academy for advance training facility.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘂𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗵𝘂𝗽 𝗩𝘆𝗮𝘀. In a significant step toward deepening international cooperation on disaster risk reduction, a high-level strategic dialogue was held at the @UNinIndia Office, New Delhi, convening senior officials and global practioners committed to shaping a safer and more resilient future. 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗵𝘂𝗽 𝗩𝘆𝗮𝘀, 𝗜𝗔𝗦, 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, @nidmmhaindia, accompanied by 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. The deliberations reflected a shared global vision aligning India’s institutional strengths with international frameworks to accelerate the implementation of the #SendaiFramework and advance climate-resilient development. The dialogue underscored the importance of knowledge exchange, capacity building, intergovernmental coordination, and community-centred resilience in an era of increasingly complex and interconnected risks.

This meeting marks not merely a convergence of institutions but a convergence of purpose, reinforcing India’s leadership in disaster risk reduction and deepening collaboration between NIDM and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction at regional and global levels.

The @nidmmhaindia proudly commenced the 𝟭𝟯𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 under the prestigious ITEC Programme of the @MEAIndia reaffirming India’s global commitment to capacity building and South-South cooperation in disaster resilience. Participants from 𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗖 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀- 𝗘𝗴𝘆𝗽𝘁, 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘆𝗮, 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗮, 𝗕𝗵𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗻, 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗮, 𝗠𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗺𝗮𝗿, 𝗙𝗶𝗷𝗶, 𝗟𝗲𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗻, 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗮, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮 have come together on a shared platform of learning, collaboration, and resilience-building.

𝗔 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗞𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮: 𝟭𝟮𝟬 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝟭𝟵𝟬𝟱

On April 4, 1905, the Kangra region witnessed one of the deadliest earthquakes in India’s history with a magnitude of 7.8.

To commemorate the 120th anniversary of this Earthquake, NIDM organized a 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻 “𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻” (April 2–4, 2025) in collaboration with @DdmaKangra and @HPSDMA.

As part of the training programme, a March Past was organized, commencing from the DC Office and culminating at the Police Ground, Dharamshala. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the district level officials, other dignitaries and school students. The event was followed by an inspiring address by 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘆 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿, 𝗜𝗔𝗦, 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿, 𝗞𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮 and was further enriched by the presence of senior level dignitaries from District Administration, and members of the NIDM team.

The event showcased a variety of interactive activities, including a Nukkad Natak (street play) that effectively delivered important messages on earthquake risk reduction in a creative and impactful manner. A compelling debate competition was also held, providing a platform for participants to express their views and exchange ideas on strengthening community resilience in the face of earthquakes.

Under the prestigious 𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗖 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, participants from Belize engaged in an intensive learning experience organized by the National Institute of Disaster Management (#NIDM), @HMOIndia, in collaboration with the @MEAIndia.

The training covered key aspects of disaster risk management, including institutional frameworks, preparedness and mitigation strategies, policy and legal aspects, funding mechanisms, and cross-sectoral integration of disaster risk reduction (#DRR). Participants gained first-hand insights into cyclone risk mitigation during their visit to the @Indiametdept (#IMD), @NCS_Earthquake, and explored emergency response mechanisms with an interaction at the @NDRFHQ. The program also emphasized health and DRR, emerging technologies, climate change, and innovative tools for disaster resilience, culminating in participant presentations on their key learnings.

Expert-led sessions followed, including insights on Environmental Laws and Disaster Risk Reduction by Dr. Satyagopal Korlapati and Ayurveda’s role in health by Dr. Sujata, RARI specialists.

Participants also engaged in hands-on Prakruti Parikshan, promoting wellness awareness session by Dr. Savita, RARI. The program featured meaningful discussions on networking and academic collaboration by Mr. S N Sidh (NIDM), along with interactive team-building activities such as a Treasure Hunt by Dr. Balu I .

The Five-Day #CCDRR Training of Trainers Programme on '𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀', held from January 6-10, 2025, at NIDM South Campus, Vijayawada.

Shri @rratnoo, Executive Director, NIDM, interacted with participants, emphasizing the importance of child protection and child rights in disasters and emergencies to ensure the overall wellbeing and inclusive development of children in unprecedented situations.

The 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (NATC) collates training needs from all states, UTs and other stakeholders to compile the annual training calendar. This year NIDM organized the NATC on December 13, 2024, inaugurated by prominent visionaries such as Shri Rajesh Gupta, Joint Secretary (Disaster Management), MHA; Dr. Krishna Vatsa, Member, @ndmaindia; Shri @AmitProthi, DG CDRI; Shri @rratnoo, ED, NIDM; Col. P.S. Reddy, JD, NIDM; and Prof. Surya Parkash, HOD GMR Division, NIDM.
