🚨 New in Sci Transl Med! https://t.co/ky3tgJE44E
Our cross‑fluid proteogenomic study shows <30% of pQTLs are shared between CSF and plasma, revealing why plasma misses key biology. We identify 427 protein–trait (249 new) links. Context matters for target discovery. 🧠🔬
New collaborative study in Nature Medicine! Our AcTau174 antibody powers a sensitive CSF assay from Teunissen lab that cleanly separates FTLD-TDP from FTLD-Tau & tracks cognitive decline in AD & FTLD—enabling subtype-specific clinical trial enrollment https://t.co/rb9OwQ4R0M
Traditional single cell transcriptomics doesn't capture most non-coding RNAs. In this work, led by @alinaisakovaSci and @StephenQuake, we introduce TotalX, a @10xGenomics-compatible pipeline that captures both coding and non-coding transcripts. Out now in @NatureBiotech! 1/7
@mathieubourdenx We immediately thought of your great study in the Cuervo lab. We haven’t looked at many other antibodies like the acTau but we should!
Pleased to share our latest study using super resolution to show that a pathogenic Tau mutation drives autophagy-lysosome dysfunction that limits Tau degradation in a model of frontotemporal dementia by the amazing Dr Mirfakhar 🔬🧫 https://t.co/iGcLqo3zq6
New research from WashU Medicine adds to growing evidence that helping brain cells break down and eliminate their own cellular waste is a promising treatment strategy for a variety of neurodegenerative diseases. https://t.co/AMaDYrR78D
Excited to share our preprint showing cGAS mediates innate immune activity in TDP-43 proteinopathy. Pharmacological inhibition of cGAS restores microglial function, corrects RNA mis-splicing, & protects motor neurons across human iPSC & mouse models of ALS https://t.co/NESXtyJsWK
New work from our lab reveals that the microenvironment around amyloid is not uniform in AD/CAA. Using spatial transcriptomics, we show that vascular vs parenchymal Aβ deposits drive distinct molecular responses. @BCMFromtheLabs@bcmneurology@EChimalJ

A milestone moment for science in #Nigeria
Nearly 15 years ago, when I first came to England for my MSc, I developed a conviction, that the kind of scientific ecosystem I was experiencing should also exist at home. Although I now call both the UK and Nigeria home, on Thursday, 29 January 2026, that long-held idea became a full reality with the commissioning of the @BioRTCNig by His Excellency, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, Executive Governor of Yobe State.
BioRTC formally began in 2021, with support from the #Yobe State Government and @TReNDinAfrica, and in collaboration with Yobe State University, which initially provided a modest laboratory space within the Department of Physiology. As research expanded, equipment arrived, and global collaborations grew, His Excellency approved our relocation to a larger interim site and directed the construction of a purpose-built permanent facility, ensuring continuity, scale, and long-term impact.
The permanent BioRTC facility was constructed and furnished by the Yobe State Government — a rare and courageous investment by a sitting Governor in advanced biomedical science.
Today, BioRTC:
- houses ₦10+ billion in advanced research infrastructure
- leads nationally significant research on kidney disease, malaria, and dementia
- trains scientists from Yobe State, Nigeria, and across Africa
- hosts international experts from around the world
What made this moment especially powerful was the presence of the Governor, senior government officials from State and Federal Governments, traditional institutions, international scientists, academics, and members of the public — all affirming one clear message: science belongs here.
I am deeply grateful to His Excellency and the Government of Yobe State, to Yobe State University, our global partners, the people of Yobe State, and to my family, whose quiet support sustained this journey.
BioRTC is no longer an idea. It is now an institution, and with continued stewardship, it will be a legacy for generations.
AD genetic risk links microglial immunity & cholesterol. Our new BioRxiv study identifies CH25H-derived 25-HC as a toxic lipid downstream of cGAS–STING–IFN that drives tau spread, inflammation, & neurodegeneration, offering a tractable therapeutic pathway https://t.co/eM0QKSNZxM
Postmortem brain reveals that aducanumab had cleared plaques and lessened tau pathology but increased vascular amyloid. #alzheimersdisease@MassGeneralNews https://t.co/M0Q3NxHyIv
FTD can be confusing, especially when someone who's been diagnosed is a parent, grandparent, or close friend. That’s why explaining FTD to kids & teens matters.
Slide through to see a simple way to explain FTD and help them understand: what it is, what changes might look like, and how they can still share love and connection.
